Rescue a Russell!

*A CRITICAL NEED*.

Russell Rescue has a CRITICAL need for foster homes. Without foster homes, many perfectly wonderful JRT's will die in shelters.

Even if you can only foster one time, it could help save a Jack Russell.

We also offer the opportunity to "foster to adopt". This allows you to evaluate the suitability of a new rescue dog for your home and, at the same time, saves a dog.

Fosters agree to house and care for a Jack Russell until it gets adopted or until the foster family decides to adopt him or her.

If interested, apply to volunteer at:

Abby (Tiverton, RI)

Abby (Tiverton, RI).

Details

Abby is a rough coat JRT from Tiverton, RI. She is about four years old and very healthy except for a minor periodic skin allergy which has been controlled with benadryl and hydrocortisone cream. Abby is a very sweet dog who loves to be with people. She is very excited to meet new friends and in general has done well but is a bit too rambunctious for her family which includes a small toddler. Not sure how Abby is with other pets, as she has been an only dog. Abby is spayed, crate trained and is looking for a home that can provide gentle consistent basic obedience training and is able to establish appropriate boundaries. Best suited for an active family with older children with the time and energy to give her what she needs. Abby wants to be part of the action! She would make a great walking or running companion which would help her work off her high energy. Abby needs to be busy and would not do well in a home where she is left alone for long periods of time.

Annie (Hampton, CT)

Annie (Hampton, CT).

Details

Annie is a 14 year old Jack Russell Terrier who is in need of a good home. She is a wonderful house dog who has always behaved more like a lap dog then the lively Jack her breed is known for. She has been spayed, is housebroken and though enjoys sunbathing on summer days she really just loves being near her owner. Her favorite things are snuggling on the couch with the family and going for walks on the leash. Annie does really well with other dogs (we have 2 other dogs) and with small children (we also have a 3 year old that plays dress up with her) but true to the breed she does not do well with cats. Unfortunately due to illness in the family we can no longer keep her and are hoping to find a good home. Annie is the mother of Martha who is also posted on this site.

Rescue a Russell!

ATTENTION!!.

HEY, LOOK!!

Did you know that Jack Russell Terriers can live to be TWENTY years old and can be healthy and very active far into their teens? Think about that when you look at our adoptees. A five year old dog can be active and healthy for about another TEN years! A five year old dog (or older) can attach to new owners as if they had been with him since he was a puppy. Jack Russells love their people and choose to love the ones they're with, no matter who they had been with in the past. The older dogs can be trained to do whatever you'd like, just as easily, if not more easily, as a younger dog. So don't worry that you need to find a very young pup. The older dogs can do everything that the young ones do with much less effort from you. The older ones are typically already housebroken and don't have that "crazy energy" that you need to exercise off before you can get them to concentrate on training. The older dogs are WONDERFUL!!!

Barkley

Barkley.

Details

Barkley, a 5 year old JRT, was surrendered to our veterinary hospital in March 2011 after being diagnosed with unregulated diabetes and his owners felt they could no longer care for him. Our veterinarians have since been attempting to regulate his diabetes unsuccessfully. He has developed cataracts and urinates and defecates excessively. Despite all this, Barkley is the sweetest dog! He absolutely loves people, going for walks, learning tricks, sitting in your lap—he is full of life. He does have a medical condition but is in no way sickly.

Betsy (Tennessee)

Betsy (Tennessee).

Details

My name is Betsy. I am safe, warm, free of pain, and loved now but I am afraid my story didn't start out that way. You see I was out on my own, injured, hungry, covered in fleas, and very scared. After wandering the streets for some time, I was taken to the animal shelter and my future didn't look that promising. Lucky for me though that the shelter has lots of good rescue connections and got my story out into the rescue community. I found my way to SBRET because they have a wonderful new volunteer who just happens to know and love Jack Russells. Oh, I forgot to tell you I am a young (about 1 year old), female Jack Russell weighing in at 13 pounds. My pelvis was badly damaged and I had an injury to my leg also. Thank goodness for the great vets at Anderson County Animal Hospital who agreed to do my surgery which was removing the femoral head (FHO surgery). I am convalescing in my foster home and will gradually regain use of my leg over time. I would sure love my new family to come along and just as soon as the vet releases me I can go to my new home. I walk well on a leash, get along okay with other dogs, and potty outside. Sounds pretty good doesn't it? I have one little thing though and that is I really want to chase the cat so a home with no cats would be best. I am so excited that SBRET and the shelter gave me a chance to have a new leash on life. Email rescue@sbret.com if you are interested in adopting me.

Buddy

Buddy.

Details

Buddy 18 month old male, smooth coat JRT that was surrendered to animal control b/c he was the typical JRT energy and stubborness. He looks very conformational correct and our guess is he came from a good hunting kennel. Buddy has been doing great in foster care for several months now, he is working on obedience, he is housebroken and knows how to sit, lay down...still working on the stay command. He gets along with the female JRTs in the house and the teenage child. He is extreme when it comes to the JRT, meaning he needs an experienced owner with daily exercise and someone who can challenge him mentally. He is a smart guy and will push his owner to keep him busy. Adoption fee is $200 that includes shots, neuter, heartworm test and chip. Applications need to be completed online and a home visit will be arranged. Email okcjrt@aol.com for more info.

Chiller is a 10+ year old Jack Russell Terrier mix rescued by 2PawsUp NC Shelter Rescue. She is definitely a senior dog, low-key and mostly keeps to herself. If you are looking for a companion to curl up on the couch with you, she is your girl. She enjoys her walks and sleeping (a lot). She loves being close with her owner and can form a very strong bond to someone who is similar in nature to her. Someone who is patient, gentle, and loves to 'chill out' by reading a book or watching TV would make a good human companion for Chiller.

Daisy

I'm an active, ball-crazy, toy-crazy two year old! I need a home where I will get lots of attention and play time. I'd especially love to learn some kind of dog sport. Agility? Frisbee? Flyball? I had been given to an 85 year old couple who finally took me to the vet to be euthanized because they couldn't handle my activity level. My foster mom wonders if they were rough with me cuz' I am a bit timid w/ folks at first. I quickly warm up if you will play ball with me. The perfect home for me would be with active adults and no young children. I'm great with other dogs of both sexes. Cats..... well, I am a terrier after all!!

Daisy is being fostered near Harrisonburg, VA. She is up to date on her shots and spayed.

Rescue a Russell!

DAISY

DAISY.

Details

Daisy is the definition of the word Dog. She is a six year old tri-color rough-coat Jack Russell - a 100 lb dog in a 20 lb body. She is spayed and flawlessly house-trained. Currently, she plays in a large yard with an Invisible Fence, but she would do fine in a fenced yard as well. She plays ball, she sings, she digs, she hunts critters, and she loves to take car rides and long naps on your chest while you sleep. However over the past 2-3 years, she has developed a hatred for our other female JRT. It has gotten so bad, that they can't even be separated by one door without one or the other trying to break down the door to get at the other. So, we have a two-barrier rule in our house. She is definitely an alpha dog. She tolerates our male lab, but bullies him into submission. For this reason, she would be best placed in a home without other dogs or small animals. This is very important - she has NEVER shown aggression toward a human, so she would be fine in a home with older children who will have the energy to play ball with her for hours - tiring both her and the child out. She would also be a great pet for an older active person or couple. She's a great listener, and sometimes she even talks back. She is fine around my sister's horses, as I know a lot of horse people like to have a JRT around. We live in the south hills of Pittsburgh, PA. I can be contacted at 412-656-5716 or by email at vmaldovan@hotmail.com

Daisy(Little Miss Daisy).

URGENT!! Daisy is in danger!! Please help this wonderful little girl!

Meet Daisy Dog! Or Little Miss Daisy or Little Miss Daisy Dog - regardless of which name you use, she is the BEST little girl around!

Little Miss Daisy is a super sweet little one year old who is spayed, current on shots, heartworm negative and fully vetted. Daisy came from a high kill shelter in WV just in the nick of time and we couldn't be happier with her! She gets along with everyone - dogs, kids, cats - you name it! She is really soft; a little taller than a typical JRT and has a full tail; JRT markings and all the energy and personality of a full JRT. (just don't tell HER she's a mix!)

She is currently being fostered in a family with kids, cats, and other JRTs and she has adjusted well.

Won't you give Daisy the new home she so deserves?!
