Russell Rescue is in great need of foster homes. Even if you can only foster one time, it could help save a Jack Russell.

We also offer the opportunity to "foster to adopt". This allows you to evaluate the suitability of a new rescue dog for your home and, at the same time, saves a dog.

Fosters agree to house and care for a Jack Russell until it gets adopted or until the foster family decides to adopt him or her.

Atlas is friendly, happy, and rambunctious. He's the typical Jack Russell. He just came to us 12/11/09, but he appears to like other dogs and is good with children so far as we have seen (a child was poking and pulling at him before we left the kill shelter from which he came, he didn't care). He is on the large side for a Jack Russell but otherwise he appears to be purebred. A fenced yard is strongly preferred for this guy, but leash walking will be considered for the right home.

Atlas is a 5 year old purebred currently at the The Humane Society of Calvert County in southern Maryland. He is on the large side for a Jack Russell. He is very sweet with people and appears to be crate trained. He has the typical Jack Russell energy and we are just beginning to test him with other dogs. At an adoption event he had a lot of fun playing with one of our 5 month old pups. He would do fine with older children. Fenced yard recommended. Atlas has a smooth coat.

I get along great with other dogs and I love children. I'm not a picky eater but I must say I do love my treats! I like to snuggle on the couch and watch TV or we could play tug of war with my rope, oh please can we play tug of war can we please can we can we!!!!. I'm up for whatever you want to do and Ill give you lots of love. Folks this is one of the best dogs I've had as a foster and we will be happy and sad when Barkley gets a new home.

BARNEY PEANUT.

His name is Barney Peanut! He is approximately 5 years old, male, neutered and up to date on all of his vaccines. He LOVES cats! He does not like strangers or kids. He does get along with most other dogs and doesn't mind being submissive to them. He startles easily and doesn't really care for postal workers or delivery men or parking people! He does not like getting his paws touched or tonails cut so we take him to the vet for that and they muzzle him if necessary (usually not necessary). He is OBSESSED with being outside on a beautiful day chasing squirels but on a cold rainy day he goes out and does his business and hurries back inside. He loves to curl up with us and snuggle, play tug of war and obliterate a squeeky toy. He is pretty well trained with the basic commands and even some more advanced (if you put a treat down and tell him to sit and stay you can walk away and he won't touch it until you say "ok"). Barney is located in Bear Delaware, very close to Maryland and Pennsylvania.

I have two boys that I am curently keeping as foster children, Timmy and Bear.  I am being very selective as to where they go.  I have four Jacks of my own, and would love to find these two boys a home, but I am more then happy to keep them for the rest of their lives, if I do not find perfect homes.  I love them to bits, but also realize that with a total of six they would be better in a home that was all their own.  I would love them to go together, but would consider separating them.  I realize that generally two of the same sex are not a good idea, but these boys are always together, NEVER fight, and love to play with each other, sleep together, eat together ect.  One of them I have had since the end of July, the other I have had for two years.  Both are UTD on shots, neutered, and healthy.  They are both tan/white and have smooth coats.  They both MUST go to homes with a fenced in yard!!!!

My name is Betsy. I am safe, warm, free of pain, and loved now but I am afraid my story didn't start out that way. You see I was out on my own, injured, hungry, covered in fleas, and very scared. After wandering the streets for some time, I was taken to the animal shelter and my future didn't look that promising. Lucky for me though that the shelter has lots of good rescue connections and got my story out into the rescue community. I found my way to SBRET because they have a wonderful new volunteer who just happens to know and love Jack Russells. Oh, I forgot to tell you I am a young (about 1 year old), female Jack Russell weighing in at 13 pounds. My pelvis was badly damaged and I had an injury to my leg also. Thank goodness for the great vets at Anderson County Animal Hospital who agreed to do my surgery which was removing the femoral head (FHO surgery). I am convalescing in my foster home and will gradually regain use of my leg over time. I would sure love my new family to come along and just as soon as the vet releases me I can go to my new home. I walk well on a leash, get along okay with other dogs, and potty outside. Sounds pretty good doesn't it? I have one little thing though and that is I really want to chase the cat so a home with no cats would be best.
