My name is Betsy. I am safe, warm, free of pain, and loved now but I am afraid my story didn't start out that way. You see I was out on my own, injured, hungry, covered in fleas, and very scared. After wandering the streets for some time, I was taken to the animal shelter and my future didn't look that promising. Lucky for me though that the shelter has lots of good rescue connections and got my story out into the rescue community. I found my way to SBRET because they have a wonderful new volunteer who just happens to know and love Jack Russells. Oh, I forgot to tell you I am a young (about 1 year old), female Jack Russell weighing in at 13 pounds. My pelvis was badly damaged and I had an injury to my leg also. Thank goodness for the great vets at Anderson County Animal Hospital who agreed to do my surgery which was removing the femoral head (FHO surgery). I am convalescing in my foster home and will gradually regain use of my leg over time. I would sure love my new family to come along and just as soon as the vet releases me I can go to my new home. I walk well on a leash, get along okay with other dogs, and potty outside. Sounds pretty good doesn't it? I have one little thing though and that is I really want to chase the cat so a home with no cats would be best. Jack is an 11 year old Jack Russell terrier. He was given up because his owner had medical problems and had to move back home where there were already too many other dogs. Jack is a typical Jack Russell high energy, tenacious, and playful. One of his cute antics is when you open his cage to let him out, he can't decide which toy to take with him, and then he quickly grabs one as he runs out the door. Jack loves to be petted and go for walks but he has one problem that makes him unadoptable at this time. Jack is a resource guarder. He is scheduled to attend Jeff Gellman's boot camp' to work on this problem.

For the year that Rascal has been in our care, he has been fighting off demodectic mange. We are seeing great improvement at last. His new foster mom adores him and allows him to sleep on her pillow at night. The daily oatmeal baths are helping with itch relief of his skin, too, and the attention he gets at his foster home is magnanimous. Trinket is an adorable two-yearish JRT female who came to our shelter in Maryland as a stray. She is extrememly affectionate and loves attention, but during her temperament assessment evaluation she bit the assessor's hand when it was near her food and rawhide so we are unable to place her in our adoption program.

She has not been spayed and would have to be before she could be released.
